Okay, okay. So the big secret that I intermittently elude to from time to time is that we are hoping to buy a freaking house in the very near future.
It's not really a secret, I guess, and it certainly doesn't need to be. It's just that sometimes I feel that when I really really really really want something to happen it's best not to talk about it but rather to just keep it close to me. I am finally learning in my thirties that this might not be the best route.
So let me dish to you, and forgive me if you know the gory details already.
This winter, Handsome Randy & I decided it was time to purchase a house. We feverishly looked through out February & March kind of racing against the clock as he was leaving on a tour in early April. Our hope was to have a house picked out by the time he departed with a closing date scheduled for when he arrived home again.
The weekend before he left we put an offer in on a lovely old house in the neighborhood I grew up in. But it was a short sale, which despite what the Wikipedia link I provided says and the name implies, they are really not all that short. In fact it seems they are very long. Very, very long.
It has been 3 months and counting. We still have no idea if we submitted the best offer (there were many others) and if we did, we have no indication of when it would all be resolved and the house would be ours. We could find out tomorrow (unlikely) or next year (probable).
This long wait, in addition to new weirdo neighbors below, HR's impending travels & a lame-o landlord have me ready to move right now. So ready in fact, that sometimes at night I fall asleep coming up with strategies for packing up our house when it comes time to do so. I will relish the moment I can legitimately look for boxes, let alone actually put things in one.
So. HR arrives home from on Sunday and beginning Monday we will be back on the lookout for the ideal abode. Keep your fingers crossed; we only have one week before he has to depart on another expedition.
So there. I put it out there for all the universe to see. Perhaps something will come of this. I, of course, will keep you posted.

A New Fight.
In the past few weeks I have been seemingly fighting a lot of battles. There have been some with others (our landlord). There have been some with myself (why did/didn't you say/do that, Dahli?!). And then, of course, there are just the every day battles of life (traffic, long lines, work, etc).
Wish me luck.

There is now one more to add to the roster.
Wish me luck.

'twas a doozy
Being in the restaurant industry I have had some pretty tough times at work. But nothing like tonight. Tonight my I left my shift wanting to quit on the spot & never look back. Tonight I became so angry that I needed to go in the bathroom and a have a mini-cry. The difference between tonight's shift & the others? Tonight's shift problems and frustrations had to do with one of the higher ups of my lovely place of work (not being sarcastic, it is quite lovely) while the others were purely to do guests**.
On the bright side, I feel proud of how I handled myself and that I spoke up in a professional and respectful manner. What I don't feel good about is that the same treatment was not bestowed upon me.
hmph.
My solution to this:
Well, I am not quitting - the flexibility and fun far outweigh how upset I am. But, a stiff drink with a good listener followed with a really nice hot bath have nearly done the trick (& writing this helps too). I will now ice it all by watching DALLAS with Handsome Randy. And as far as at work, well, I just nod yes and then do what I think is right & that's advice straight from my grandpa.
**My apologies for the lack of juicy details regarding this matter, but this is the internet afterall, and well, you just never know.
Oh, and we also bought a new car today (before I went to work). That helps too. But I'll tell you all about that tomorrow.

I have dug myself out.
well, i haven't been writing as much as i would like. & when I get into a place where I'm not doing things that I enjoy I tend to get down on myself for it. This of course only prohibits me from returning to doing those things again. i get into a rut.
grrrr.
oh, i've been in a rut for about a month now. no sewing, no writing, not a lot of biking, not even a lot of housekeeping.
we've all been here in various forms, right?
it's a vicious cycle. And it is loathsome.
Lately, everyday I wake up waay too late (12:30 or so) because I couldn't fall asleep until the sun came up (I've also been having trouble sleeping, go figure). I am immediately annoyed with how much of the day has happened without me. So, the long bike ride I wanted to take before work (I typically start at 4) is forfeited because I stomp around my house for a while sulking about the time.
I either resign to a really short ride or to "relaxing", which is not at all, it's laziness & encouraging of self depracation. These "relaxing" afternoons consist of me eating yogurt & apples while I watch the day's General Hospital episode sprawled out on the sofa with my cats. GH ends at 3 & I realize I don't have much time before work & flutter about doing things like cleaning the litter box or taking out the garbage or the dishes. I arrive at work in a daze because really, my day has just begun but it's pretty much over especially if I close the restaurant. I vow that tomorrow will be different: I'll fall asleep before the sun rises and wake up earlier & go on a bike ride followed by very productive things!
But then night falls & it happens all over again.
sigh.
So cyclic.
But! Never fear! I think I have dug myself out! Today, I broke the mold & was up by 10 & feeling better and more productive.
I'll keep you posted if you keep checking back.
